Day 207: 50 years down the road

On this day 50 years ago at 5:17 in the morning, a devastating earthquake struck Skopje, Macedonia. About 80% of the city was destroyed. The tremor that lasted around 20 seconds killed more than 1000 people, injured between 3000 and 4000 and left more than 400,000 people homeless. Today, we remember all those people as well as  the heroes who participated in the rescue efforts and the rebuilding of our capital. Skopje remembers.

This is a view from one of the streets that lead to Macedonia square. I don’t really know who to give credit to for the old photo (I found it here). The part in color is a photo I took today.
